As most of you know by now, I have been hunkered down for the past couple of weeks preparing full-steam for the First Annual FabMo Art Exhibit this Saturday. FabMo has been around for about a decade and is the work of one couple from Palo Alto, who collect samples of designer fabrics, wallpapers, and trims from local firms and shops. We went yesterday to see Julie & Julia, and it was entirely charming and unexpectedly touching. On Saturday, Erik and I drove up to Sonoma to see Eurie do her Ironman triathlon. Eurie has been training for this all year, but somehow we didn't realize until the week-of exactly how much insanity this event entails. It's a 2.4 mile swim, followed by a 112-mile bike ride, followed by a complete 26.2-mile marathon. The athletes start at 6:45 AM ( Read more... )

Yesterday morning I dreamed about making a braided rag rug. This is a process Laura Ingalls Wilder described in one of her books, and in my dream I remembered this and figured out how it must work. I think it's very cool because I've been hand sewing this week, and I also spent some time on Friday braiding garlic tops, so my mind put the two ( Read more... )

This is where the ceremony was held, at Pulgas Water Temple in Woodside (near Palo Alto). The location is actually at an aqueduct, but there's this beautiful structure here, and the reflecting pond. A very intimate and lovely site.

Discoveries this weekend:

While Jackie was here:
San Francisco International Chocolate Salon entertaining, but not really worth while. Too many people and too much crowding around each booth; it was hard to really savor the chocolate and remember what distinguished one from another. My front-body feels incredibly sore today. I guess we've been doing a lot of heart openers in yoga (appropriate for Valentine's Day!), which tends to mean lots of backbends -- and I am really naturally bad at backbends.
